Virtualization
Two years ago, our client contacted us as they were about to expand their operation by purchasing another facility in another region of the country.
Unfortunately, the client did not have the necessary infrastructure to handle their new 24 x 7 operation, nor did they have enough server capacity to handle the complex systems necessary to operate this business unit.
BizEdge designed and implemented a virtualized environment that reduced their current number of servers by 75%, and allowed the client to add the additional servers necessary for the new facility, 10 in total, to the existing 25 servers which we had already converted.
For this solution, BizEdge engineers upgraded the base Active Directory platform from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003, designed and implemented a VMware Enterprise environment, implemented a new Dell server farm with Dell switches, installed a new EMC Fiber Channel SAN, implemented Citrix Zen App Server in a 5 server farm ( all running virtual ), upgraded the Cisco switches, upgraded routers, and installed a new Cisco ASA appliance w/ full VPN capability.
The end result is an environment that can be expanded, has full redundancy, fault tolerance, due to reducing the physical server farm to a virtual environment, the cost of operating the computer room was greatly reduced, with the client becoming a little “greener”
Re-engineering IT
Three years ago, our client contacted us as there was about to be a staffing change in their IT Department.
BizEdge was called in to evaluate the current network and IT situation and formulate a plan to take over IT as an Outsourced-IT Manger, rather than hire a new in-house person.
Using our Network Security and Forensic tools, our staff was able to determine the health of the network and understand the condition the environment was in.
After our evaluation, we recommend the client consider outsourcing part of their IT Department to BizEdge and we then proceeded to apply all needed patches and updates. In the process of redesigning the IT function, another staffing change occurred, and BizEdge was entrusted with the full outsource of the IT function.
In three short years, BizEdge has upgraded their server farm (improved reliability), migrated their website from an outside hosting provider (reduced recurring expenses), helped implement a new website based on Microsoft Technology with a fully functioning change management system that the users utilize (reduced expense of updating website, as the users can quickly make their own changes), and we have upgraded all of their critical application software necessary to run their business, to their most current versions (improved uptime and reliability)
The end result for the client is a $75,000.00 annual reduction in IT expenditures, 24 x 7 network monitoring provided by BizEdge, significant reduction in outsourced provider expenses, improved uptime in all areas of the organization, and the implementation of new technologies such as Sharepoint, a new public hotspot for visitors based on Cisco technology, with all systems continuing to be current and updated.
